obsession
- The domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a
persistent idea, image, desire, etc. Alcoholics and
addicts can become obsessed with finding, and consuming
their drug. |

Old-timer
- A person with many years in the program. It's all
relative, but most will agree that someone with over
twenty years is an old-timer. |

opiate
- Preparation or derivative of opium; broadly : a narcotic
or opioid peptide. |

opioid
- A generic term applied to opiates and their synthetic
analogues, with actions similar to those of morphine,
in particular the capacity to relieve pain. |

- An analgesic and euphoric drug acquired
from the dried juice of the opium poppy. |

outpatient
treatment - Nonresidential treatment for drug
addiction. Patients live at home, often work, and come
to a clinic for treatment. |

outreach
- Reaching out to extend services to others. |

overdose
- The use of any drug in such an amount that acute adverse
physical or mental effects are produced. |

oxycodone
-A prescription painkiller that has become a popular
and dangerous recreational drug. Also called "Oxy"
in the street. OxyContin is a time-release morphine-like
narcotic intended to relieve chronic pain of moderate
to severe proportions. |
