ragweed - Street slang for an inferior quality of marijuana.
random testing - Unannounced, random selection of candidates to be tested for drugs and/or alcohol.
re-up - Street slang for replenishing a depleted supply of drugs.
receptors - Cells in the brain that are sensitive to particular drugs; for example, the effects of heroin are experienced once the drug attaches itself to the opioid receptor in the brain.
recidivism - Tendency to relapse into a previous condition or mode of behavior <a study of recidivism among heroin addicts.
recovery - Recovery is the process of adopting behaviors that supplant addiction.
recovery home - Similar to a halfway house but with a stronger emphasis on a permanent recovery plan. This usually involves participation in a 12-step program. Residents are expected to attend daily meetings, get a sponsor, work the 12 steps and become involved.
recreational use - Usually indulged in by part-time users, perhaps only on the week-ends so they don't allow themselves to become fully addicted.
rehab - A center for the rehabilitation of alcoholism, drug addictions, and related disorders
rehabilitate - Helping a person recover from drug addiction. Rehabilitation teaches the addict new behaviors to live life without drugs.
relapse - Recurrence of drug using behavior after a period of abstinence has been achieved by an addict.
relapse prevention - Teaching alcohol and other drug abusers to cope more effectively and to overcome the stressors or triggers in their environments that may cause relapse into drug use and dependency.
research - A slang term for a relapse. It's said you can go out and use to research whether you are truly an addict. Or you can research whether active addiction has gotten any better.
resentment - Indignation or ill will felt as a result of a real or imagined grievance.

residential treatment - Any addiction treatment center that provides lodging and meals for it's residents. so they can reside at the facility offers residential treatment.

revia - An opiate antagonist used to treat alcohol dependence, works both by reducing the urge to consume alcohol and by making drinking less pleasurable.
rohypnol - A powerful benzodiazepine which induces sleep. Also known as "roofies" a date rape drug.
roofies - Street name for the powerful "date rape" drug, rohypnol.
rush - Street slang for the surge of euphoric pleasure that rapidly follows intravenous administration of a drug.
